Obituary for Nancy Lee Darling

Nancy Lee Darling, 62 of Kirksville, Missouri passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.

She was born October 23, 1957 in Joliet, Illinois the daughter of Eugene Pope and Helen (Scoggin) Pope who both preceded her in death.

Nancy is survived by her husband, David Darling of Kirksville, MO; one daughter, Susan (Susie) and husband Christopher Lassabe of LaPlata, MO; one son, Joseph Nagel and wife Victoria of Kirksville, MO; two granddaughters, Danielle Lassabe and Charlotte (Charli) Nagel; one sister, Linda and Ralph Brajas of Morison, IL; two brothers, David and wife Kathy Pope of Ashkan, IL, Steven and wife Kimberly of Alton, IL; countless nieces, nephews, two great nieces, one great great niece; her faithful furry friend, Anabell; her five cats, Katcken, Embers, Gwen, Whiskers, and Eclipse.

Born and raised in Illinois spending most of her life near Joliet, Illinois until following her children to Kirksville, as they attended college. She loved Kirksville, the friendly people and how accepted and she felt here. In her younger years she enjoyed traveling and camping with her parents and later shared the tradition with her own children. One of their favorite trips was camping for two weeks in Yellowstone National Park.

Nancy was a woman with a heart and giving back and helping others was a one of her gifts. She spent many years volunteering. She was a first responder for the State on Illinois, A (CERT) Community Emergency Response trainer. She spent countless hours volunteering for the state of Illinois Emergency management system and pampering and encouraging others, giving manicures and pedicures weekly with her daughter at the DuPage convalescent group.

She was an avid reader who enjoyed learning. She raised and showed long haired dachshund pups for many years, loves all kinds of pets and enjoyed watching show like Law & Order, CIS, Criminal Minds and a variety of cooking show. Her greatest asset was her children and later her grandchildren along with her love for helping people and looking out for others. She was the kind of girl that would pick you up along the road if she thought you needed help. So, that is exactly how she meet and later married the love of her life, David Darling.

A Celebration of Life in Nancy’s honor is being planned for a later date and will be announced.
