Obituary for Karen Ann (Teater) Luscan

Karen Ann Luscan, age 80 entered into the eternal joy of the Lord on Thursday, May 26, 2022 with the Game Show Network playing on the television and her family beside her at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville where she had been a resident for a short time. Karen was born on December 20, 1941 at the family farm where the Lake Rathbun Administration building now sets, she was youngest child of William Howard and Mary Francheon (Beaty) Teater. She was raised in the Plano, Iowa area and attended local schools.

Karen was untied in marriage to Joseph Thomas Luscan, a US Navy man that she met while waitressing in San Diego, CA. The couple was married on October 12, 1968 in Tijuana, Mexico and again on November 1, in San Diego as the US Navy would not acknowledge a marriage outside of the country. Following Joe’s retirement from the Navy the couple returned to Centerville and purchased the gas station at the intersection of highways 2 & 5 and named it Joe’s Sinclair. Karen worked at various retail stores over the years including Spurgeons and The Hobby Shop and later worked as a Funeral Assistant at the Luscan Funeral Home in Unionville.

She had a knack at crafting and making flower arrangements and following Joe’s death in 2007 she could be found every day at McDonalds with her circle of friends at noon and again at 5 pm. After COVID shut the inside dining room down she still made her twice a day McDonalds run to order “the grandma” and then to Wal-Mart to “people watch” while she ate. Her greatest pleasure came from the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a long-time member of the Solid Rock Church of God in Centerville.

Karen is survived by her children; Denise Ritter and husband Rex of Centerville, Iowa and Howard Luscan and wife Casandra of Unionville, Missouri, her grandchildren: Crystal (William) Mayer of Lovilla, IA, Amber (John) Worley of Unionville, MO, Devon (Andy) Garden of Centerville, Kelsey (Drew) Forquer of Centerville, Derek Luscan and Fiancé’ Jordon Herbst of Kirksville and Josh Luscan of Unionville, Raley and Maelynn O’Connell, of Unionville, Shannon Ritter of Centerville and Ben (Kristi) Ritter of Centerville. Her great-granchildren: Kaydence, Allyson and Arya Garden, Liam Mayer, Lyla Forquer, Shelbi and Peyton Ritter, J.J., Anna, Ted, Brandon, Austin, Makenzie, and K.K. along with several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe and son Blake Eugene Luscan, her sisters; Carletta Knapp and Mary Hiatt and brothers Verl Teater and Ray Teater.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 30, 2022 at 3:00 pm with Pastor Kris Watlett officiating at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville, IA. Memorials can be given to the Putnam County Care Center and can be mailed to Casady-Luscan Funeral Solutions, PO Box 2, Green Castle, MO. Casady-Luscan Funeral Solutions are honored to care and minister to our family during this time.
