Obituary for Onie Leona Marie "Onie" Hatfield

Leona (Onie) Marie Johnson Hatfield, 58, of Novinger, Missouri. passed away at her home in the comfort of her family. She was born October 25, 1958, in Kirksville, Missouri to Emery and Virginia Johnson.

Onie was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by husband George (Junior) Hatfield, one daughter, Ginny Marie Scott, one son-in-law, Billy Scott, one grandson, Brody Leroy Scott. She has one step-daughter, Lacy (Levi) Hillard and step grandchildren Remington Swallow, Parker Swallow, Logan Hillard, and Liam Hillard. Her mother Virginia Johnson; siblings, Kathy (David) Childers, Carol (Dennis) Tilman, and Roy (Pam) Johnson. She has several nieces and nephews.

During her younger years she was fortunate to live near enough to her cousins to be able to play
with them and many became her best friends, especially her “partner in crime”, Brenda Combs
Ingram. She attended school in Green City, Novinger and finally graduated from Kirksville Senior
High in 1977. Following high school, she spent 22 years working at the Florsheim Shoe Factory where she met the love of her life. On June 26, 1993, she married Junior Hatfield and soon after they had their awesome daughter Ginny!

After leaving the shoe factory, she was able to pursue her lifelong passion of working with children.
She started by working in the infant care program at the Kirksville High School/VoTech. Later, she transferred to the Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC). While there, she touched many lives and made more friends than one can imagine. She was always bringing home kids and loved every minute of it. Shortly into her new career at ECLC, she found out she was going to be a grandma! She and Brody did everything together. They enjoyed swimming, going out on the boat, and anything else Brody wanted to do.

Onie was one of a kind and held her family very close. She was always positive and had a smile that
would light up even the darkest moments. She loved to shop, have her nails done, and spend any free
time with Junior, Ginny, Brody and Billy. She became friends with everyone she met-- from class-
mates to coworkers and even parents of the children she so loved to work with every day.

She fought a long, hard battle with cancer, but she never lost her sass or missed a chance to be a
smart ass. She always had a kind word, some good advice, or a snappy come-back, but you knew
it came straight from her heart!

Onie’s wishes were for cremation by Water and “A Celebration of Life” will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017 in Green Castle, Missouri at A Simplified Funeral Solution. The family will receive friend from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with a service at 8:00 pm officiated by Virgil Jones.
