Obituary for Wilma Jean "Jean" Updyke (Jacobs)

Jean Updyke age 94 of Kirksville passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018

She was born to Gail (former mayor of Kirksville) and Minnie Sherer Jacobs on January 21, 1924

Jean attended Kirksville Schools, including Kirksville Senior High, graduating in the Class of 1942.
Also in 1942, Jean was married to James (Jim) Updyke who she was married to for 42 years with his passing in 1984.

Jean and Jim enjoyed many years together of raising their family and enjoying time at Spring Lake. They also had memorable times traveling together and attending business related trips for Updyke Motor Company. One of their greatest thrills was attending many horse races to cheer on their harness horses in Iowa, Missouri & Illinois.

After Jim’s passing, Jean spent a lot of her time (20 plus years) on South Padre Island, Texas enjoying the weather, the ocean and trips to Mexico. Jean loved her friends and family and doing things together, especially during the holidays. Jean will also be remembered as a wonderful cook, with some of her favorite dishes being morel mushrooms, crappie and shrimp.
She always made everyone feel welcome in her home and looked forward to entertaining friends and family.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Kenneth Jacobs and Claude Jacobs, sister Juanita Jacobs and her son William Updyke.

Surviving family includes son Chuck Updyke and wife Mary Updyke, granddaughters Natalie Updyke and Lauren Updyke Massey ,husband Shawn Massey , great granddaughter Norah Massey, grandson Cole Goembel, great granddaughter Paisley Goembel
nieces, Gaylene Jacobs, Pat Pulis, Sara Bowers, nephews Steve Jacobs, David Jacobs
Other Relatives include Jack Pulis, Todd Pulis, Pat Jacobs, Jessica Branstetter and Jillian Pulis
