Obituary for Steven Parrish

Steven Ray Parrish, age 60, was born April 23, 1957 in Knox County at the Gibson Hospital to Donald Ray Parrish and Peggy Jean (Karhoff) Shahan and passed away January 25, 2018.

Steve attended Knox County high school and graduated in 1975. He enlisted in the United States Marines Corps and serviced domestic and foreign. He was stationed in Barstow, California.
He was honorably discharged in 1980 and returned to Northeast Missouri.

Steve’s favorite pastimes included fishing, playing cards, and bowling over the years. He cared deeply for animals, having special pets of all sorts that gave him joy. Steve loved hunting, motorcycle rallies, and buy and selling guns. He could be found at the Shack on most weekends, Thursday nights and most mornings drinking coffee. Steve had a special place in his heart for his children and grandchildren.

Steve is survived by the love of his life Nita Jeffries, of the home, who was with him till the end. Daughters Barbara (Michael) Hays of Kansas City, MO, Colissa Parrish (Scott Schnirch) of Kirksville, and Courtney Parrish of St. Louis, Sons Jeremy Davis of Kirksville and Tim Davis of Kirksville. Grandchildren Boyd and Ronnie Hays, Maverick and Memphis Schnirch, Tyler and Caitlyn Davis, Kendahl and Kale Davis.
Also surviving is his mother Peggy Shahan. Siblings are Brothers: Ronnie (Kristy) Parrish, Larry Parrish, “Doodle” Doyle Shahan. Sisters: Angela (Dave) Anderson, Melissa (Jake) Thompson, Phyllis (Kent) Mallett, Brenda Parrish, Donna Parrish (Mark Pender), and Jennifer (Eric) Dickerson. Steve is survived by extensive array of family and friends.

Steve is preceded in death by his father and his cherished grandmother Gail Karhoff.

A celebration of Steve’s life with be held on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Loyal Order of the Moose, Kirksville.

A memorial ride and Patriot Guard escort will occur at a later date, to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please consider a monetary donation to a local veterans’ cause in honor of Steve.
