Obituary for Stanley B East Jr.

Stanley B. East, Jr., age 80 of LaPlata, MO, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO. Stan was born August 24, 1937 in Derby,CT, the son of Stanley B. East, Sr. and Ruth (Vedder) East. On June 1, 1957 he married Mary Katherine “Kathy” Sadler in Pleasant Hill, MO. Kathy preceded him in death on January 9, 2018.

Stan was also preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, one brother Ronald D. East in June 2017 and a daughter in law, Gayle M. East in March 2017.

Stan is survived by 3 sons, Stan M. “Rabbi” (Lynnette), Kevin R. (Tracey) all of LaPlata, MO and Ronald F. “Fred” of Independence, MO. 7 grandchildren-Joey Sadler (Amy), Adina East, Stephanie Carpenter (Jason), Cameron East (Liz), Lauren East, Jamie Byrd & Jason Robinson (Candy). 14 great grandchildren-Chris, Tim & Emily Sadler, Trinty East & Avery Cambron, Gwen & Violet Carpenter, Kiesha March, Gavin & Presley Miranda, Jax & Quinley Robinson and Brysen & Brynlee East. 2 great great grandchildren - Cabe & Kylynn March.

Stan graduated from Shelton High School, Shelton CT, June 1955, then graduated from William Jewell College, Liberty MO, May 1959 and was ordained to Ministry, June 1959, graduated from MO School of Religion at MU with his Masters of Divinity, June 1964.

Stan was a minister at Freeman Christian Church, Calloway County Pastoral Unity which included Ham's Prairie Christian Church, Dixie Christian Church and New Bloomfield Christian Church.
Stan was minister of LaPlata Christian Church from July 15, 1964 to September 1978, In 1978 he became Regional Director of Northeast/North Central Medical Services Council. He then became minister of Granville Christian Church April 1979 to December 2004. Stan later became a part-time Instructor at KCOM, teaching CPR and then an Assistant Professor, teaching and coordinating several courses, until his retirement.

Stan joined the LaPlata Fire Department in September 1964 and was an active member of 53 years. Stan has served in several positions in LaPlata during the past 53 years including:EMT, Paramedic, Commerce Club, Lions Club, LaPlata Jaycees, LaPlata Park Board, Library Board, Municipal Judge, Emergency Management Director until the time of his death, Cemetery Board, founding member of Macon County Enhanced 911 of which he was an original member of the board and was still serving at the time of his death.

Stan was a 50 year member of the LaPlata Masonic Lodge, a member of Scottish Rite of Columbia, MO and a recent member of the Moose Lodge of Kirksville, MO
Stan was also the score keeper for basketball games for LaPlata home games and also substitute taught for many years.

Visitation will be July 7, 2018 at the LaPlata Christian Church from 9-11am, with services at 11. Memorials can be made to Travis Funeral Chapel for the LaPlata Fire Department or the LaPlata Masonic Lodge
