Obituary for Sara JeNiene Towns

Sara JeNiene Towns, 84 of Trenton, MO, passed away at 7:15 pm, Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton MO. She was born October 27, 1933 the daughter of Floyd and Mattie (Harrison) Nighthart in Gilman City.

She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Stephen (Steve) Towns; her parents and one sister, Bonnie Jo Thompson.

Sara is survived by her daughter; Tonda Ransdell and husband Mike of Trenton, MO; one son, Mark Towns and wife Rhonda of Spickard MO; one grandson, Monte Benton of Las Vegas NV; two granddaughters, Lisa Moore of Nixa MO and Leslie Kimzey and husband Travis of Freeport, FL; two step grandson, Michael Ransdell and wife Melissa of Kansas City MO and Bradley Wilson of Spickard, MO; one step granddaughter, Brandi Wilson and husband T.J. of Ozark, MO; fourteen great grandchildren, Jorden, Kendi, Kelsi, Peyton, Mecalynn, Madelynn, Morganne, Breckon, Macey, Kaylie, Codi, Britton, Ryan and Derrek along with several nieces and nephews.

Sara grew up in Gillman City, graduated from Gillman City High School in 1951, attended one year at TJC and taught school at Battle Creek Country School in Harrison County, MO from 1952 to 1953. She was united in marriage to Steve Towns on August 20, 1953. After Steve’s discharge from the Army in Washington, they returned to Grundy County and began farming. She and Steve dearly loved the farm and farm life. In the early 60’s she was employed at the Trenton Milk plant. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved playing the piano, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She did a lot of cooking in her day and loved serving her family and farm hands. She and Steve were devoted members of the Hodge Presbyterian Church for many years.

A visitation is planned from 10:00am to 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Hodge Presbyterian Church in Trenton, MO.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am with Reverend Steve Merrin officiating. Burial will follow in the Edinburg I.O.O.F cemetery.
