Obituary for Robert Earl Bennett

Robert Earl Bennett, 84 of La Plata, Missouri passed away at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia, Missouri May 15, 2018. He was born November 11, 1933 the son of Earl and Vera (McMullen) Bennett.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille “Tootsie” Bennett; two grandsons, Jarred Allnutt, and Adam Winter; one granddaughter, Courtney Bennett; one great grandson, Issac Winter; one grand daughter-in-law, Stephanie Winter; seven brothers, Cleve, Lowell, Forest, Dean, Dale, Roger; one sister Eva Ryan.

He is survived by his children, Gloria (Steve) Allnutt of La Plata, Missouri, Pamela (Scott) Buscher of Lakeville, Minnesota, Robert Earl II, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Peggy (Danny) Daniels of La Plata, Missouri, Dean (Pauline Perez) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Kerry (Carrie) Barnes, Arron (Andrea) Barnes, Brandon (Stacey) Winter, Jessica (Landon) Freeburg, Lance Buscher, Randy Winter Jr., Heather (Caleb) Jones, Ethan Gunnels, Chet (Phyllis) Daniels, Megan (Mike) Elkins; great grandchildren, Breanna (Devon), Jasmine, Allison, Jake, Logan, Ella, Brielle, Randy III, Adayln, Ladan ,Gabe, Claire, Will, Cole, Keene, Kohen, Jacob, Misty; one brother, Richard (Pat) Bennett; two sister, Charlotte Olson, Joan Alexander; several nieces and nephews.

Robert grew up in Lansing, Iowa area, in 1953 he joined the US Army serving three years stationed in Korea and Hawaii. On May 14, 1955 he was united in marriage to Lucille Behrends and worked the family farm alongside his father until 1963, at which time they moved to Cedar rapids, Iowa. He worked odd and end jobs until pursuing a career in the trucking industry and later opening Bennett Trucking Company.
In 2010 after the passing of his beloved wife, he moved Missouri to be closer to his daughter. Robert was a wise man, he valued family, loved his children and had a unique and special bond with each. He enjoyed carpentry, clock making and traveling to wood festivals and vendor shows selling his craftsmanship. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, Ford trucks and Nascar.

A Celebration of life is planned for 10:00am Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Fellowship Baptist Church 1701 Jamison St. Kirksville, Missouri. A private family inurnment will follow in the Norway Cemetery in Norway, Iowa.

Memorials are suggested to the Harry S Truman VA Hospital in Memory of Robert.
