Obituary for Joey Eugene Summers

Joey Eugene Summers, 56, died on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Hannibal Regional Hospital. He was born July 23, 1961in Unionville, MO and raised in and around Unionville. He was a lifelong resident until his failing health forced him to move to Hannibal MO so his daughter Hannah could care for him.

Joe worked at PSF (as it was then) for 20 years as a truck driver hauling two -three loads a day. He joined the Unionville fire department in 1989 serving over twenty years. Many of those years he served as the assistant chief. He loved to hunt and fish especially out at the Unionville City Lake in his boat. They enjoyed using the fish finder to find the fish before catching. He enjoyed his time fishing with the kids and they always had stories of their adventures.

Joey also enjoyed building and restoring Jeeps, he owned several through the years. He was a wheeler dealer, always buying, selling and trading something.

He is survived by his three sons, Jeramy Summers(Dana), Casey (Brown) Hurley, Michael Summers; one daughter, Hannah Summers; brothers, Jeff Ledford, Johnnie Summers; sisters, Yvonne, Dianna, Elizabeth, Peggy, Teresa; step-sisters, Joy, Janet, Jana and Jody his grandchildren, Raven, Chris, Jeramiah Reanna, Trey, Wade, Jeramy Joe, Joshua, Teagen, Kinslea and soon to be grandchild Kody Jo who is due in November. Joey is also survived by the mothers of his children, Tami (Brown) Hurley, Amy (Brummer) Turpin and Tabitha Belcher.

Joey was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Summers and Wanetta (Clay) Anders; step-father Curtis Anders and a great grandchild, Zachary.

A visitation is planned for 1:00pm Friday, October 13, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Unionville. A service will follow at 2:00pm with Jeff Harlan officiating. Interment will be in Lipp cemetery.
