Obituary for Jaunita

Jaunita Jones Fulks, 98 of Kirksville Missouri, passed away peacefully Friday, February 16, 2018 at Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville.

Jaunita (“Neet”) was born October 20, 1919 in Novinger Missouri. She was the last of 3 children born to Emery and Ada (Atteberry) Jones. Neet had one brother, Carlos Jones, who preceded her in death on March 18, 1996 and one sister Leona “Onie” Brown who preceded her in death on August 7, 1999.

She married Edward Fulks September 20, 1944 and he also proceeded her in death on September 19, 1972. She had no children, but her nieces and nephews were very dear to her heart and meant the world to her.
Neet’s family owned and operated The Jones Candy Kitchen for many years in Novinger. They serviced the small coal mining community and fed many people over the years who traveled into town to work or who just needed something to eat. The Candy Kitchen offered wonderful homemade candies, homemade ice cream and meals for a nickel…anyone from the area will remember this business with fond memories. Later, her and her husband Ed opened the “Pool Hall” next door to the Candy Kitchen. Lots of food, laughter, dancing and music were exchanged here as well.

Neet lived and worked in many places throughout her adult life as her and her husband traveled. Eventually they returned to Kirksville where she worked for Hollister Inc. until she retired in June of 1985.
She was a proud member of the Hamilton Street Baptist Church and enjoyed the fellowship and friendships she made over the years. She was a devout and dedicated Christian.

Jaunita is survived by one Nephew, Jerry Brown and his wife Carolyn of Lee’s Summit Missouri. One Niece Judy Clark and her husband Fred of Kirksville. One Great Niece, Lisa (Speaks) Lehmann and her husband Aaron of Kirksville. One Great Nephew, Frederick Clark and his wife Diane of Huston, Texas. Two Great, Great Nieces, Macey Lehmann and Gianna Rizzo and 4 Great, Great Nephews, Coby, Luke and Logan Lehmann all of Kirksville and Micah Clark of Houston Texas.

A memorial service will be held at the Hamilton Street Baptist church on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Campbell Cemetery with a private graveside service for the family.

A special thanks to the entire staff of Twin Pines Adult Care Center for many years of love and compassion dedicated to taking care of Neet. She made so many close friends there and her funny, ornery wit will always be remembered. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her and will be treasured forever.

In lieu of flowers, please mail donations to the Campbell Cemetery maintenance fund.
